Does anyone know if its worth it to go to the University of Florida for engineering?

Hi,I’ve been accepted to both the University of Florida and University of South Florida. I’m currently deciding which one to go to. My intended major is Civil Engineering.

However, I do want options as that may change, and I know that UF has twice as many engineering majors to choose from than USF.
Problem: Though UF is ranked higher in terms of its engineering department, and has more major options, I’d have to take out about 5500 in loans/year, 1600 will have to come out of parent pocket, and 3000 from work study, which sounds really hard. At USF, it’d be about 1000 in loans/year. That’s a large difference.
Another problem: I’ve heard that besides games and greek life, there isn’t much to do there. Especially considering the town it is in. Tampa sounds a little bit better.
Also, I’m not sure if UF engineering students get more opportunities than USF engineering students…

So, are there more cons than pros for going to UF for engineering (vs USF), considering my situation? Is it worth it to go? Honest answers, guys. Thanks!

My son was trying to decide between UCF and UF Engineering programs. After attending the Gator Engineering Day he had no doubt that UF was a better choice. He was also offered a 15k scholarship from UCF. He felt UF had more to offer and in the long run would be worth it. I originally liked UCF better but also felt after attending that event the UF was going to be a better choice.
