Does anyone know if UCSC is good for computer engineering?

I've heard many things - good and bad. Does anyone have first hand experience or any input of any sort? I also got into SJSU which is definitely good for engineering, but UCSC has the 'UC' title soooo I don't know what do do! Comments about either school would be appreciated (: Thanks!

I’m in CS and not CE…but I can tell you one thing.

A lot of companies recruit here. A lot. Google, Blizzard, EA, Sony, for a few. The quarterly career fares are usually some %50-75 companies looking for CS/CE majors. So yeah. Job opportunities everywhere.

Hi, I am also accepted to UCSC for CE and I was wondering about the same thing so I appreciate your advice.

Hey guys, I am a first year here at UCSC right now, and am a CE major. This school is definitely good for CE. Classes are interesting and challenging, and it is very easy to get involved in projects and such. Job fairs are once a quarter, and they certainly look for CE majors, especially those who are interested in Software and Hardware. I understand that UCSC might not be your first choice, it certainly wasn’t mine, but the opportunities here and the room to grow is great. Hope this helped.

Can anyone provide some more insight into CS at UCSC?
I hear a lot about the video game aspect of their CS program and i’m worried that I would get a lesser quality CS education regarding other aspects of CS.

My insight is that the program has some slightly outdated components (the two algorithms classes), but otherwise succeeds. Lots of research opportunities. You can read a little bit more about it here: [Accepted!..but… : UCSC](Reddit - Dive into anything)

Believe me, the game design major suffers from being structured around CS, and not vice versa. If anything, game design has encouraged a wider variety of classes to be offered, such as: Web development, mobile application development, advanced computer animation/graphics, and 3D modeling. The core classes of the CS degree are as strong as ever and have not been watered down due to the game design major.

Thanks Liesel.
Just read through the reddit thread; it was very informative!

Thank you guys for your help!
