Does anyone know the cut-off range yet? And the % admitted?

I thought waistlist starts at Nov 3rd

Nope that's the last date. Maybe I shouldn't have told you, better chances for me lol

It's June 1-November 2 or 3

Ahhhhh... thanks :D. so we just call em up and reserve ourselves on the waitlist huh. good luck to you my friend!!

junshik, you're a winter admit, aren't you?

What masterhammy is talking about is the Fall 2009 housing waitlist. You apply to the Winter one, which begins on November 3rd, once the fall waitlist ends.

Yeah, there's a number on the housing site along with the dates. I'm guessing that date you call them up with your info and they put you on the list

Really, Stan? I called today and told the guy that answered at the housing office told me that I wasn't guaranteed housing, which I already knew, and that the wait list starts in June

UC San Diego Housing Waitlist

Yeah -- I was a winter admit also. I signed up for housing as soon as the waitlist opened on November 3rd. The guy you spoke to was probably wrong.

I think we are all misunderstood here. Masterhammy are you a winter admit? According to Stan, Winter admits may begin applying for waitlist starting Nov. 3rd.

Yep, I'm a winter admit, the guy at the office must have been wrong, but it wouldn't hurt to call in early lol. So it looks like November 3rd is the date. Thanks for clarifying Stan

What was the cut off from last year? I'm kind of curious to find out what my point total was. But I don't want to call and be a nuisance.

last year? beleive it was 7565

For Regents, the cutoff was 7258 for academics only.

Here’s how to calculate your score (have a scientific calculator ready at hand for your convenience):

Here’s an example (not my stats nor anyone else’s):

UC weighted GPA x 1000
ex., 4.05 GPA x 1000 = 4050 points

SAT scores
(SAT I score for all 3 sections + 2 SAT II scores) x 0.8
ex., (700 + 700 + 700 + 800 SAT II + 800 SAT II) x 0.8 = 2960 points

Add these two together, and you get 7010 points. That’s 248 points away from the Regents cutoff score of 7258.

Also add:
Courses taken beyond minimum a-g (most of you probably have done so)
500 points

Any points for EC’s, ELC, low-income, etc.

Usually you get no points for your essay, unless they extracted something that they can give points for.

[University of California San Diego](http://admissions.ucsd.edu/dev3/info/comreview.html)

Step I: Academic review Maximum Consideration
Uncapped Grade Point Average (GPA) 4,500
Scores of all required exams 3,200
Number of “a-g” courses beyond the minimum 500

Step II: Additional academic factors
Eligibility in the Local Context (ELC) 300
Educational environment 300

Step III: Socioeconomic factors
Low family income 300
First generation college attendance 300

Step IV: Personal characteristics and achievement factors
Demonstrated leadership 300
Special talents/ achievements/ awards 300
Community and volunteer service 300
Participation in academic development preparation programs 300
Special circumstances/ personal challenges 500

You can also call the UCSD admissions office, located at the Triton Center, at:
(858) 534-4831

If you ask for your point breakdown, they will most likely give it to you.

For this year’s admissions for all UC campuses:
[UC California freshman admissions for Fall 2009 - University of California Office of the President](http://www.ucop.edu/news/factsheets/fall2009adm.html)
http://www.ucop.edu/news/factsheets/2009/fall_2009_admissions_table_4.pdf</a></p>

UC admissions have been down a little bit this year due to an increased number of applications and budget cuts as well. UCSC’s admit rate was the most drastic of all; it dropped by about 10%.

UCSD’s admit rate is 38.0% for Fall 2009, as opposed to 41.7% for Fall 2008.

How do you calculate the points for community service, awards, and above minimum, etc…?

After you that, you add it to GPA and SAT’s?

For some awards, you get 100 points.
UCSD considers 1st, 2nd, or 3rd place awards.
For being the leader of small club, or other small leadership role, for 2 years or more, you get 150 points.
I think >100 hours of community service need to be finished within 2 years for points to be awarded.

ELC students automatically sweep in 500 points. So do first-generation, etc. where you only have a yes/no status.

These all do not go into the SAT and GPA section (which determines who gets Regents), and are added separately from them to form a composite score (which your admission is based on).

Call the admission office for more info. Everything I posted here is what they told me by phone.

Whats a Regent?

So I add my SAT and GPA together with the rest? Whats the cut of after that?

I will have 250+ hours of service, how many points is that? Also, I don’t get the above minimum course part.

Thanks for helping!! =)

Regents Scholar = 6K (around full tuition) + honors program

Cutoff is 7738 this year.

np, I’m also helping a lot of my soph and junior friends at school (I’m hoping they would go to UCSD with me next fall! xD)

250+ would definitely get you points.
UC’s require a certain minimum number of courses you have to take, but most people exceed those requirements and get the extra points (see the UC website for how many a-g reqs you need).

I’ll be going to UCSD this fall. Hope you’ll be going soon also!

Wow… 7738? Im not sure I make that? My GPA sucks, most likely a 3.77 UC gpa at the end of this year.

I haven’t taken SAT 2’s yet, but I think I can pull in a 2850 (Or more)/3200

I will have 250+ of hours.

As for courses, well beyond the req’s. Had a very rigorous schedule, taken take the most rigorous course offered.

Will take a class at UCB and I have a class from a local community college (UC transferable)

School is pretty decent I believe, not very low income.

I have good experiences, but not an epic adventure or something huge.

What do I get?

edit- more to add

Educational Environment - We are a “distinguished school” trying to be #2 in our district, #1 is a top 50 or 100 in the US. This year I know 13 people that got accepted to Berkeley, LA, and SD (Each UC) One went to Harvard.

Also, if the college course at Berkeley (Will take this summer and if I get an A) and the community college course should bump it to around a 3.8. Am I allowed to add these in. Still bad… =(
