Does anyone know what they did to the Internet...?

I'm in a dorm that is supposed to have wireless, and it used to until yesterday. It just stopped working for my roommate and I. Then we had to pull out the ethernet cords and adjust our desks because the jack is located in a stupid spot, and we got emails starting with "Dear NAME" (no I'm not hiding my name, they just seriously put 'NAME'), it has been brought to our attention that many residents have been using file sharing programs and violating copyrights. Blah blah blah. Stop doing it, please. Review our page on why this is illegal and what other things are prohibited. Blah blah blah." But it's been over 24 hours and it still isn't working.... I have online homework due this weekend and it's a pain in the butt to be stuck in this one spot to do it because there's no room to put my books except for right on my laptop itself (which is a pain to repeatedly lift so I can type).

Is this happening to anyone else on the west side of campus? Neither my roommate nor I have been pirating, and although we have Limewire it has not been used at all (and we blocked sharing of files + disabled it from autostarting) so it shouldn't just be that they're blocking us personally, especially since the email made it seem like they sent it to everyone (and I know they sent it to a few people on the east side of campus, if not everyone).

I just want to know why... I can't really call or email the helpdesk and expect an answer any time soon.

Everyone got the e-mail. I’m in Reynolds, so not on the west side, but we have some wireless from Landis…not sure what to say! I’m sure they’ll fix it soon.

It’s still off in Wildwood, and Reynolds isn’t even supposed to have wireless. >_<

Did anyone contact IT support to find out what’s going on. Maybe FSU got served with a big lawsuit for copyright infringement Friday and the stuff hit the fan with FSU administrators and they shut down the system? What does FSU do to students caught illegally doing file-sharing?

They shut your internet off, and then you have to go through a long process to get it back. I believe you have to pay a fine and/or they watch you remove every illegal download (they track everything) from your computer.

Nah, it’s off for everyone on this side (at least in/near wildwood), and we haven’t been pirating anything. Someone was freaking out earlier about having to pay so much a semester for this and non-working trash chutes. =/

It’s on now… finally.
