Does anyone log on CC and think "I'll never get in"?

I totally agree with this thread. I applied to Yale SCEA. I felt good about my chances when i first applied, but i still knew that it was yale that i was applying to. At the time I didn’t know about CC. After i found out about CC i began reading the yale SCEA thread. It was pretty scarry reading all the extremely high test scores and EC’s. I didn’t even want to get on CC. I myself have pretty good test scores (33 on ACT) and good extra-curriculars, but i ended up feeling like i had no chance. In the end i got deferred, but i feel a lot better about myself now and am totally addicted to CC lol.

^impetus I bet my ECs could give you a run for your money for not being strong.

I can’t wait until April–my best friend has lower stats than me and what seemed like lower ECs (or at least far less time-consuming ECs, but very atypical and career-focused) and she’s got into UChicago early, just got a likely letter from Duke and it’s making me realized how much not being focused on my career and trying out all different ECs during high school has hurt me. I hate the fact that if one saw my resume they’d be like “Oh, she joined a lot of clubs with not a lot of deep interest to plaster on her resume” when I really joined a lot of clubs just because I still haven’t realized what I like best. :/

And CC is driving me crazy too! I was convinced last night that I wasn’t going to get in anywhere and started crying. When the reality is I’m in 2 schools, with an amazing merit scholarship at one, so even if all my top schools reject me, I still did OK.

BEST POST EVER SINCERELY!!!
I am an international student from Mexico. My school sent past year two boys to top colleges, a 1850 to Stanford and a 2090 to Uppen. I got similar stats to the one accepted to Stanford. Each time I post here my stats, 90% of the replies said:‘’ you won’t get in’’ and actually it really affect our personal conceptions… anyways, i try not to focus too much on what some persons said…
also, i can’t believe there are some guys who post things like : ‘’ i got a 2340 should i retake’’ i mean… CC must be helpful and informative… not cruel… btw, i am also addict now… i hope this is my last post in some time!

haha yeah all the time. I don’t know if this applies to anyone else but when I read the stats of some people on here I get really depressed at first and then I feel motivated to work harder :D

plus it’s nice to know that I’m not the only person out there who obsesses over this type of stuff lol

@ impetuous can i please just thank you for saying this? my ECs look so bad compared to basically every CCer I see, I didn’t even get into NHS because (guess what) I didn’t have enough ECs.

I’ve heard Swarthmore is good place to apply if ECs are a bit weak. They look more at GPA, tests, etc. IF what I’ve heard is true, that is.

A kid from my school got in Swarthmore ED with a perfect transcript, 33 ACT but also didn’t make NHS because of weak ECs until his mom called and ragged that he was a straight A student that wasn’t admitted, so they added him late. He did play 4 years of a time consuming sport, though.

I have a community college GPA of 3.19 and the one time I took an SAT (no studying!) I scored 1850.

After reading CC I’ve come to the conclusion I’m one step away from being a neanderthal. Anyway, I applied to UC Irvine and UC Davis and might still get the $90 “to throw away” together to apply to Stanford because I really like the place. Thanks to the TAG program that UC Davis and Irvine have, I should be getting in there.

I won’t comment on the SAT score because I didn’t even know what an SAT looked like until the morning of the test and was under the impression you’re not SUPPOSED to study for them. Why is beyond me? I guess I had my head under a rock?

As for the 3.19 GPA, I’m very proud of my accomplishments. Walk a mile in my shoes and you’d probably have a 2.something :stuck_out_tongue: Woot!

^^ I guess that’s good, cause Swarthmore is my top choice college.
