I've just read it. But I wonder if it's "appropriate" for school. It's incredibly gory - the most gory book I've ever read. It's even a lot more gory than the violent computer games I've played - I certainly DON'T want those details popping up into future computer games.

It is part of the Humane Letters curriculum for grade 11 in all the Great Hearts Charter Schools in the Phoenix area: Chandler Prep, Veritas Prep, Mesa Prep, and others.

I read it in 6th grade. :)

Charter school. lol

we’re reading it right now, actually

i’s SO much more interesting/exciting than the other stuff we read in engrish

I read the Oddysey in 9th grade, the real version. We read an uber basic and baby version of the illiad, about 90 pages prose large font lmao.

I was bored so I read it… in greek.

I think I had to read it in 6th grade. It might have just been the Odyssey though.

I read The Aeneid, which was also quite gory, although I don’t know how it compares to The Iliad

I saw Resident Evil 4, which was probably much more gory, visually.

I heard about Saw III years ago. But I wonder if it’s appropriate for school. It’s incredibly gory - the most gory movie I’ve ever heard rumors about. It’s even a lot more gory than the violent computer games I’ve played like Halo and NHL 10 - I certainly DON’T want those details popping up into future computer games.

I think I read 2 Books/Chapters in 9th grade.

I don’t think you guys read the real version in 6th grade. Probably a super baby-ed version of it. The Iliad and Oddysey are epic poems… thick literature

The version I read was pretty thick.

[Excerpt from The Odyssey](http://www.rheader.com/ebook_excerpt/a3/TheOdyssey000001.html)

Like this one?

I don’t really have much memory of stuff I read a decade ago.

the Pope translation is, in my opinion, the most prestigious

I’ve always enjoyed Marcia WIlliams’ translation

You need to grow up if this book is too gory for you. Deal with it. It’s a great piece of literature.

“One was blind, like he who gave my surname
Such notoriety, and lit a flame
Of Romantic spirit that would prevail.”
- Poet A. Homer on John Milton

Plato wasn’t a big fan of Homer.
