judging by the number of threads on here... I guess not.

Many people take it ceriously. CC is not all that representative. We visited over Thanksgiving and D applied EA, although I must admit she wasn't all that excited.

Just because there are few posts, does not mean that a school is not taken seriously...Shrinkrap, could you share more info about Spelman? Did you like it? What was your D not so pleased with?

This was our fifth campus tour. The others seemed to put more effort into it. There was no informational session, so there was only input from a student volunteer. Didn't feel like they were "selling it" like a lot of other places we'd been. Emory was dramatically different. I have a relative in Atlanta who says the girls seem "uppity" and don't know what to do with their money.(she probably world say the same about us, but we are not, and we do...!). I went to Howard and was really hoping she'd be more excited. We ore waiting to hear their "early action" decision, which is due by Dec 31st.

D just got her acceptance letter!

~Congratulations!~

I don't take it seriously.

Does who take the school seriously and what do you mean by "take it seriously?"

I think the OP means are CC members interested enough frequent the forum and post regularly. By CC standards, Spellman doesn't have too much draw. Its In HBcu, single sex school, not ranked in highly by the media. It appeals to a pretty unique sector of the population, and of the forum as reflected here:
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/spelman-college/398503-americas-best-black-colleges-spellman-number-1-a.html

and here

Can't see why anyone would expect Spellman (HBSCU, women's college) to generate a lot of interst on these board where posters are primarily White and obsessed w/ the top 20 LACs. And even among the top 20 LACs, the women's colleges (Bryn Mawr, Smith, MHC) get far less "play" than lower-ranked coed schools.

Spelman College is a highly regarded HBCU. My sister was accepted to Georgetown and Spelman (full tuition scholarship) and decided to attend Spelman. It was a huge decision for her. Everyone questioned her decision, but she stood by it. She graduated in 2002 and went on to attend upenn med. If I was to attend a HBCU, it would definitely be Spelman.

Welcome!..
