Does anyone think the waitlist has even the possibility of being used?

Because I'm on it and not feeling very hopeful at all. I love the school, have been rooting for them all tourney, but that success could be ending my personal shot at attending.

Disappointing.

Same feeling, Davidson was my first choice and I just got my waitlisted letter. I think I will probably end up at UNC (accepted, OOS). If Davidson beats Kansas, I think I will have to cheer for the Tarheels after all.

Did anyone notice how few girls they took last year? The little brochure that came with my letter said 3 for 2007.

Parent of a wait-listed female student here.

I finally read the brochure that came with the waitlist card. The wording indicates that only three women "enrolled from the wait list" last year.

That could have been a statistical aberration. They could have offered 15 spots to 15 men and 15 spots to 15 women, and only three women took them up on the offer. Or they could have offered 18 spots to 15 women, had only three women take them up on the offer, and then offered the 15 remaining spots to 15 men.

Or some combination thereof. We can't draw conclusions from that number.

The full numbers from the brochure:
2005: 21 men, 21 women, "enrolled from the wait list."
2006: 22 men, 19 women.
2007: 15 men, 3 women.

I'm going to say no. I love the school, my brother goes there, it was my number one for a long, long time. Unfortunately, the tourney success is going to drive the yield up and a higher yield means fewer kids off the wait-list. I heard an interview on NPR and there are concerns that Davidson's yield could be 100 to 200 students MORE than the magic number of 470. I don't know what would happen after that but it isn't looking good for the wait-list.

Purplexed, I think Davidson takes the gender balance very seriously. I've followed their m/f balance over the last few years and it is always very, very close. For the Class of 2011, it was 234 males, 238 females. They may use the wait-list to balance the sexes or something else. That's just a guess but it's a thought. Who knows, maybe the female yield rate won't be as high as the yield rate for guys (assuming the stereotype that guys care more about basketball is true). If a higher rate of guys choose to enroll over girls, it may mean more girls off the wait-list. I think this year is going to be so strange and different that any conclusions are going to be squishy, at best.

I'm doubting it, personally. I'm still sending in my request to be considered, but I'm not pinning any hopes on anything.

I'm getting off the waitlist(accepted to Pomona). Better shot for you guys I guess.

DS will be declining his offer (RD). I know of one spot that will be available.

D received an excellent offer from Wake and will gladly accept it. Has anyone noticed how dead this site is since Davidson lost? Have to wonder about the depth of this body.

Wow, EarthWake. Sorry your d was waitlisted at Davidson; but no need to get ugly.

this particular forum is almost always dead, you're looking for something that isn't there earthwake.

yeah earthwake, if your daughter has gotten into wake good for her, don't suggest the site is dead or the people of davidson are shallow, at this time most decisions have been mailed, so why bother with being a CC'er 24/7 like yourself

OK. Let's be honest. My daughter and I visited DC and WC last fall. Both on equally beautiful North Carolina fall days. Who's kidding who? Let me put it this way. If you've been there you'll know. DC is authentic Main Street. WC is Disney's Main Street.

what are you referring to when you say WC?

Oops - I meant WF.
