Does AP Calculus BC cover all of the content of Math 114?

I was wondering is it enough to get a 5 in AP calculus bc to go ahead and take math 240, since most of the material in 114 will be redundant, I know that I'd only take credit for math 104 if I got a 5 in BC, but I also heard that Penn did that to suck up more money from students and force them take 114.

so my question is, will I be comfortable taking 240 or is it better to take 114 AGAIN?

IMO 114 is harder than a Calc BC 5, so only go for it if you're really comfortable. College math is a lot harder than you might think at first.

no, it doesn't cover all the content unless your AP course in high school was extraordinarily comprehensive beyond the scope of the AP curriculum.

check out the 114 and 240 curricula online and see if you learned enough to feel comfortable skipping 114.

Keep in mind that 114 is multivariable/3D vectors, stuff like that. I doubt you learned that in BC. The only freshmen I know in 240 took college calc classes after BC. Really, take 114.

You only receive credit for 104 with a 5 on BC.

I mean I took a look at the 114 syllabus and most of it looked familiar to me, I just want to know if I will be having serious problems if I went for 240 straight ahead, since I'm a sophomore right now and I don't want to take 240 in my junior year. I don't mind studying a little of 114's content on my own, but if it's really different than BC then I'll just take it again.

I think they have the finals from past years online somewhere on the math dept. site - look at them and see if you know all/most of the answers.

You should probably get about 55-60% in order to move on to 240.

if it's 55-60% then I think I'll be OK and just take 240

Calc BC is math 104. BC (by collegeboard AP standards) wouldn't be the same material as what's covered in 114.

That said, if you had a BC class that went beyond what was required, you could probably learn the 114 stuff on your own pretty quickly and take a placement test or just sign up for 240. (talk to the dept to find out the policies on 'testing out' or getting credit - you may actually be required to get credit for 114 and simply skipping it won't help you)
