Does AP credit count toward your college GPA?

When you transfer your AP credits to college, do they count toward your GPA? For example, since a 5 on an AP test counts for an A in a college class, would that be computed as a 4.00?

Depends on the college. Most colleges don't do it like that. Some local universities and community colleges do though.

AP credits are more often used for placement purposes or to award college credit so as to have fewer classes and theoretically graduate earlier. Since fewer classes are needed, I suppose the AP credits are not factored into the GPA.

Okay, thanks for the help. :)

Mostly when get credit hours for things such as AP or CLEP they are not given any grade and there is no affect on the GPA. So for instance if you have 6 AP credit hours and 40 credit hours of work completed at the college the GPA would be based on your total grades divided by 40 hours (not by the 46 credit hours on your transcript).
