Does applying early help chances?

I’m a senior and I am applying to Pitt. I’m taking the ACT this month, and I am also taking the SAT next month. Pitt has rolling admissions, and I have heard that applying early helps your chances. Is that true? I ask because I’m unsure of whether I should have Pitt wait for my October SAT, or if I should just send them the ACT so I can have a finished application as soon as possible.

@Hunterwhaley,

We encourage students to apply before January 15, in order to be automatically considered for scholarships. It is up to you whether you push to apply earlier than that time. It is to your advantage to plan ahead and apply early, but it can also be to your advantage to present us with the best possible test scores you have earned. You can submit your application and indicate there that you plan to take a test in October.

Best of luck,
A Pitt Admissions Staffer

@hailtopitt1787 I definitely will have my application complete well before January. But am I at any sort of disadvantage if I wait, say, an extra month to apply? Like September vs October.

@Hunterwhaley, I can’t really say. It depends on the pool of students we get from year to year, because we will fill spots as we go. As I said, it’s ultimately up to you.

Best,

If you are interested in conditional admission to pharmacy school it is better to apply early, so if you have the required grades and scores now you can go ahead and apply.

@mommdc makes a good point. If you are interested in being considered for any of our graduate school guarantees, you will want to check and see if there are any specific deadlines (exe: Dec 1 for the Med School Guarantee).
