Does applying early help?

Say I decide to apply to Pitt during the summer--July or August.
I know I won't get a response until around October, but will it give me an advantage in admissions over those who apply later on?

Also, would scheduling an interview when I visit campus be beneficial to my admission as well?

Absolutely. You are being judged against less of your peers, the admissions committee is not as swamped and will devote more time to your application, and you have a MUCH better chance of getting a scholarship (and more money) if you apply early.

I’m not sure about this. I don’t know if OAFA holds interviews, or if it’s just Pathfinders/other people. I know it can sometimes help for deferred students, but for regular applications I’m not 100% sure how it’s taken into account. At the very least, it couldn’t hurt, but your admittance won’t depend on it either.

Thank you so much! So, there really isn’t such a thing as “too early”?
Also, does applying for financial aid come after acceptance to the school?

While they do not give official interviews, you can have a meeting. I think visiting the school, and demonstrating interest is liked at Pitt… I know it helped my d get in. And yes, apply early. They have official visiting days in the summer. If you go, and fill out your application while you are there, they waive the application fee.

If you mean applying for need-based aid, that just means filling out a FAFSA report and mailing it to school before the deadline (which I think is in February, I don’t remember). You can send a FAFSA in before you get admitted.

Can I apply during the summer online, or is it only during the visiting days when you’re physically there?

You can apply online in the summer, but you won’t get the application waiver code unless you attend a visiting session at Pitt in the summer (I think before mid-August generally).

But otherwise, the benefits of applying early that you listed above are still in effect when applying online? They’ll still receive the application in the summer?

They receive it, yes. So you will be looked at first. However, decisions won’t be mailed out until early October.

Well, I got a waiver and I didn’t go this summer. If you send them your test scores first, wait a while. If they like what they see, sure enough, you will receive a waiver by email.
