Does applying early to a school, in August for example, instead of late October before the Early Action deadline help your chances? Do admissions committees even begin reading before the deadline?
Thanks!

No, it doesn’t matter when in the Early Admission cycle you submit your application.

FWIW: Most colleges will not read an application until specific parts of your file have been received – namely your transcript, test scores, and teacher recommendations. So if an applicant sends in the Common Application in August (along with their essay and supplement), but a high school doesn’t send in the transcript until mid-October, the application will not be read until then.

It helps with rolling admissions colleges (many state universities are rolling admissions). But not with a college with an EA/ED/RD type cycle.

Was there something in your own thread you disagreed with? <a href=“Can applying early ever hurt you? - Applying to College - College Confidential Forums”>Can applying early ever hurt you? - Applying to College - College Confidential Forums;

I apologize, @T26E4, I should have been more specific. The previous thread was about decision deadlines and applying too early, this one is about maximizing chances to get in. Sorry I didn’t make that clear in the titles.

@intparent thanks!
