Does applying early really increase your chances of acceptance?

I've been reading posts of people that got accepted to UT from past years and many of them have said that applying in September/October helps your chances a lot. Can anyone confirm/deny this?

Obviously, it can’t hurt to apply earlier since it shows that you have initiative and really want to go to the particular college. But, in my opinion, if you have the qualifications, then you should get in anyways. It’s not like applying early will make a significant difference. I applied December 1, the very last day for the Dean’s Scholars Honors Program and I have been accepted with a full ride (one of only 5 I was told). I also applied for the SHAPE Medical Leadership Program a couple hours before the application was due and still got in. So, at least for me, applying early wouldn’t have changed anything. Hope this helps you out in some way!

UT only has rolling admissions for students who fall under the 9% rule (or whatever the percentage may be). For all other students, they collect all of the applications before reviewing any of them.

When I went to take a little tour around the campus, I sat in on an informational session where they said that applying early really doesn’t make any difference. Of course, you should apply as early as you can just because it’s nice to get it all done.

In addition, the sooner you send in your application to the college the sooner you can apply for housing. If you want a private shower, private room, or if you want a specific dorm that’s relatively hard to get into, you should apply very early. The second they have received your application, get on and apply for housing. It’s $50, and it determines your housing priority for all four years that you’ll be at the college.

But to go back to your original question, it doesn’t make any difference when you apply unless you’re thinking about housing. I applied hours before the application deadline and I was accepted (much to my surprise).

Pretty much this.

The two things I would like to add though is if you’re applying for certain honors program they do have a priority deadline (October 15).
Other then that take your time; early November would probably be a good deadline if you want to avoid all of the troubles of waiting a long time for confirmation on whether or not they’ve received your application/documents.

I submitted my application 2 hours before the deadline and got accepted to the school of engineering (as an out-of-state student). But hey! the earlier the better!

I submitted my applications the day of and received my admission as a fall transfer within three weeks
