I glanced the penn results and realized some top kids getting rejected to both Penn and Wharton and some top kids (but not as impressive as the other kids) get into Wharton without applying to M&T.

Does that mean applying to M&T (or any other program) hurt your wharton chances?

Thanks a lot guys

If you get defered from M & T you automatically also get defered from wharton until you are pushed over with the regular decision applicants which your application will then once again be looked at first by M & T and if they reject you THEN your application is transferred over to the wharton pile. The M & T with wharton back-up does not give you the edge in terms of ED for wharton. Sorry if it doesnt make sense if you need more clarification you can PM me.

No I got you... thanks a bunch....

I guess its a classic risk return scenario

i'm not sure if that's true...

i know plenty of people who applied to joint degree programs and got into their "backups" ED. There are several people in wharton who applied to Huntsman ED but got into Wharton ED. I also know at least a dozen engineers my year who applied to M&T ED but got into Penn Engineering ED.

However, I haven't met anybody who got into wharton ED even though they applied to M&T ED. NOT to say there aren't any... I just haven't met any personally. Sorry OP if that doesn't help.

My disclaimer: This is purely anecdotal evidence based on a very poor sample size. Remember that once you get here (or wherever you end up), your NOT going to be going around asking "Hey dude, were you early or regular? Early? That's solid bro"

thanks a bunch abhim

BTW sorry for using the term "backup"

Wharton is def not more than just a backup but i guess when you are comparing it to M&T itll slide.

The other huntsman thread completely disagreed with pnthrs11 so im still a bit confused

i dont know who pnthers is, but from his stat profile it looks like he is going to be the "class of 2014".... for what it's worth.

like i said, I don't have much confidence in my "anecdotal evidence". but the few friends who I know firsthand applied to a joint-degree programs ED and instead got into wharton ED should be solid proof that it's possible... the question of if it hurts you or not is up for debate, but I strongly doubt anybody on this forum has the answer

abhim for you info I am 2014 which has absolutely noting to do with my ability to answer the question and I was answering on my experience from students applying from my high school. Penn has not made this part of the application process clear and therefore it is better for the op to ask the school themselves
