From what i heard the selectivity varies massively from different colleges in the Carnegie Mellon University. Does anyone has data on how hard it is to get into each college?

I plan to double major in physics/ECE, so I dont know which college to apply for, but I will probably apply to the one that is easier to get admitted

i have the data and it says its easiest to get into either the Humanities and social sciences and the college of sceinces. the first one is easier though overall.. both accept about 50% of those who apply(last years data).

you have to realize though that very different people apply to both colleges. because cmu is a self-selecting school, you get a bunch of applicants who apply that are mostly at the top of their class in the sciences (usually top 10%). that means that the 50% admittance rate isnt like harvard's where a bunch of people are just applying for the hell of it. it means that 50% of all the qualified and talented kids that apply get chosen.

true.. and cmu's pool is even more self selecting with the reputation of the heavy workload...

im not saying the H&SS schools and sciences are weaker at all... especially since im going to enter H&SS next year... you're right.. i guess people are intimidated by cmu or that only people who are qualified and academically focused even apply. Even though my SAT's are in the upper range of those going to the humanities school, that school has an avg lower sat score compared to the other schools at cmu. That could also be because the humanities school admissions committee might pay more attention to the applicants essays and the well roundedness of the person in various skills rather than just the math sat score for example.
However, I know people who applied to Tepper or school of sciences and got waitlisted but were accepted at h&ss. They were both very motivated students and plan to transfer into their respective schools while at cmu anyway.
Overall, just apply to the schools you're interested in.. dont apply to a certain school just because you think you might have a better shot of getting into.

but when i apply for a double major which college do i put in to the application?
