Firms always have on-campus events such as office hrs (resume critique, face time), analyst panels, company presentations, info sessions, and etc to let you know more about the firm and get some face time - all before the interview.

Do these really help as much as recruiters make it out to be? Or would you say it's all about how you do in the interview? Can showing a lot of interest make/break you before being given an offer for an internship / summer analyst?

A lot of times the info session will have a sign up sheet or something. It always helps to make a face to face connection.

Info sessions are usually a good way for you to do research on the company (if you haven’t already done so). Also, if you’re lucky, you might make an impression on someone there which may help you in your interview. Not only that, but you might learn something about the company that may help you in your interview.

So, why not.

Good responses, thanks. Anyone have personal experiences?

I was selected for an interview with a firm last semester. They had a meet and greet dinner thing the night before. I struck up a conversation with this partner (who had taken down probably 3 too many glasses of wine). She actually ended up being the same partner I had my interview with the next and subsequently giving me an offer.
