Yeah, that's what I'm wondering, too. I felt like it should be both. We did a band tour each year, and section leaders have responsibilities outside of class; add that to practice, festivals, concerts, etc. I feel like it shouldn't be confined as simply a Fine Arts course but a full on activity.

i ended up putting 10 hours a week for band when i applied, for a duration of 4 years. i remember we had 9 hours of practice for three weeks over summer, around 10 competitions (around 8 hours each), tons of practice for them, tons of concert practice, and tons of concerts.

so yea, 10 hrs a week is pretty much what it averaged to...

now the real question is whether i actually went to everything =)

you should be careful, though. band is a bittersweet EC. while it may look good, it probably reduces the difficulty of your courseload. my courses were definitely really easy (only had 6 APs total...band took up two periods), and my counselor may have nicked me for course difficulty on the common app.

I am wondering the same thing. Daughter's high school has class band (Wind Ensemble) that they earn high school credit for, but they can also participate in Marching Band. It is optional and no HS credit is awarded.
