My D desperately needs a new computer and she has been looking at a Macbook pro for her graduation present. Does Bates lean towards PCs or Mac? Is there a discount from either Bates or Apple, and if so how to get it?

I don’t know if there is a discount or not. Check their web site. You might find something there. I don’t remember seeing anything when D was a freshman.

Some of D’s friends have Macs and some PCs. D has a PC. I don’t think it really matters at Bates. I don’t believe that they lean one way or another.

I would say that a large majority of Bates students now own a Mac but that being said, PC’s are visible around campus. As for the Apple discount, I believe I received information about it with my welcome packet outlining FYS, AESOP, etc. but you can also access it through apple.com and there is an education section.

You can get a discount on a mac. When you are on the apple site, there is a College Student Discount. They change it ever few months, like up until September, you get a $100 gift card that you can use when you buy a mac. I’d personally suggest a Mac over a PC.
