Does being 1 year behind in math kill my chances?

I am in Alg.1 as a freshman and my goal is to join a UC. I had all A's and B's but 1 bad grade in Alg. 1 last year because of some personal mistakes I made.

This year in the first semester I have a A+ in Algebra, but since I'm 1 year back, will that kill my chances of making it into a UC college? Will it help if I take courses at a local community college and leap ahead to where I should be?

Taking Algebra 1 as a freshman is not behind. You are right on track and no it won’t kill your chances. Taking community college classes aren’t necessary but will show that you can handle college work, something schools look for.

I took Algebra I as a freshman.
Sophomore year I took geometry and Algebra II in the same year.
Then I tested out of pre-calculus at the end of sophomore year.
At the beginning of junior year I tested out of our regular calculus class.
Now I’m a junior in AP Calc BC.

You can take a course if you want to, or you could learn on your own. But Algebra I as a freshman is just average, not behind.

Thanks guys, I had been really worried about that for a while now. I’ll talk to my counsler to see if I can Double up on Geo and Alg.2 next year.
