Does being a legacy help?

Both of my parents graduated from U of I UC for undergraduate and prof. school, does that have any influence on my admissions decision? (Btw, I'm out of state, Missouri)

The last time we hit on this I think the answer was no. Too many applicants have parents or siblings etc. that went there.

well, being a legacy doesn't help (my uncle went to UIUC, and neither his son or daughter were admitted), but being an out-of-state student may help. oh, yeah, I probably shouldn't say that cause someone's gonna bite my head off, saying that isn't true, that they don't considere WHERE you are from when considering admission...

of course, there's nothing OFFICIAL that out-of-state and international students occassionally get priority...but when the university sends out a survey asking the in-state students whether or not they'd be willing to pay more in tuition so scholarships could be awarded to more out-of-state and international students, you wonder where the real priority lies. plain fact, out-of-state and international students bring in more money.

"well, being a legacy doesn't help (my uncle went to UIUC, and neither his son or daughter were admitted)"

you cant say it doesnt help... maybe your cousins are retards.

"but being an out-of-state student may help"

I believe it helps... it gave me a lot to talk about in my essay, and i could at least bring diversity to the school. Applications are not admit/denied based on a computer score. there is a real human being reading those essays and deciding if you should get in. In my case at least, for aviation, that fate was in the hands of just one man, and it worked out for me.

"maybe your cousins are retards"

Ooooo...resorting to personal insults. Your intelligence overwhelms me. Lovely to know that my university is admitting such caring, compassionate, and respectful persons like yourself.

maybe they are. and im not insulting your cousins, im questioning your logic that because a person doesnt get in, legacy has no impact.

crazy hippy misinterprated everything, yeish
