Does being a Native Am Indian help?

<p>University of Oklahoma gives scholarships to members of tribes headquartered in OK- Cherokee Nation is one, I’m not sure if United Keetoowah meets the requirement (but I think it should since it is also hqed in Talequah.) At OU you can take classes in Cherokee (the Kituwa dialect.) Yale also has a strong, but small, NDN population. UCLA, UC Berkeley, Evergreen State University, Mills College, Stanford, Haskell Indian Nations University, and any of the tribal colleges are great bets for NDN students. Western Carolina University is very helpful if you are Eastern Band, they offer a minor in Cherokee Studies for UG work and you can take language classes in the Giduwa dialect. </p>

<p>Also to be noted, Cherokee Nation scholarships are VERY competitive and open only to those that live in the Cherokee Nation and counties neighboring Talequah. I’m Cherokee Nation and did not qualify for a scholarship because of this :(</p>
