Among the Ivy league colleges Dartmouth takes a special interest in Native American applicants and students. The college was founded in the 1760s as a school to educate young Indians, but that didn’t last. Within a few years its enrollment consisted almost completely of the children of English settlers. In the 1970s Dartmouth remembered its heritage from the colonial era and established the current Native American program to attract and support Native American students.
