<p>Does a notification that an applicant is a finalist for a merit scholarship mean the applicant will be admitted? My son received such a letter with congratulations but the letter did not actually say he was admitted.</p>
<p>Yes, unless the college gives scholarships to everyone admitted, which I doubt or else you wouldn’t be asking the question. Congrats to your son!</p>
<p>Yes. This happens ALL the time, people find out they are admitted this way. (UC Regents scholarships for instance.) Congratulations!</p>
<p>Thank you. He hasn’t actually been selected for the scholarship yet – he’s a finalist in the selection process – but I imagine it’s the same thing re acceptance.</p>
