Does being Asian hurt your chances at getting into Michigan?

I am Asian and I was wondering if being Asian (chinese) will hurt my chances. I heard that colleges compare asian students with other asian students. Is this true?

No, you will be compared to all students. I highly doubt a college that is already under scrutiny from the past regarding affirmative action is going to do a 180 and do anything that even smells of discrimination.

No. Affirmative action is banned by the state constitution.

There are a lot of Asians on campus. One may have a small advantage as URM but I don’t think it would be much a disadvantage as an Asian if at all.

No, but being black or hispanic will increase chances. Do that instead.

in all honesty, if you were that typical kid were played tennis and violin, did math club, science club, then that’s just typical.

But if you were an Asian kid who played wide receiver and played drums, enjoyed performing stand-up comedy then that’s better. Of course, it’s too late change who you are at this point and probably should only do the things that interest you. Just wanted to say what type of Asian you are, will matter much more. Because the former above are a dime a dozen

“No, but being black or hispanic will increase chances. Do that instead.”
You realize that makes no sense because admissions is a zero sum game right? You cant increase a group’s chance without relatively decreasing another group’s chance.

“No. Affirmative action is banned by the state constitution.”
The school is creatively circumventing laws based on the state’s residents’ desire to continue discriminatory admissions practice by using arbitrary criteria that are largely correlated with race.
