Does being Filipino hurt my chances?

I don't know whether I should check the Asian box, or the Pacific Islander box in the future. I know that being Asian will make my admissions mixed in with the other "over-qualified" Asian groups which I am afraid to mix in with (Chinese, Japanese, Koreans, etc.). Pacific Islander would be a good choice, yet I am still not sure what ethnicity being a "Filipino" really is, considering that they have both Spanish and Asian and a mix of other races in there. lol.

Yeah I don't know. Help?

There’s no requirement to check anything. You aren’t Pacific Islander, and it’s understandable not wanting to be lumped in with the Asian group. If Other or Asian, Filipino are not available, checking nothing would be acceptable.

Thanks for the clarification

Filipino is Asian. Under the Asian box, Filipino is an option in common app. Pacific Islander does not apply to Filipinos.

It is confusing. My mom if Filipino and when I was growing up, it was considered Pacific Islander. Now it’s Asian. You aren’t the only one to wonder what stupid box to mark lol.

For what it’s worth, my daughter opted not to mark Asian.
