Does being First Generation still count as a hook if you're International?

Some of the extremely selective national universities do, too. For example, there is no question that First Generation is a clear plus at Duke. </p>

My dad was a factory worker (went to trade school, was accepted by Washington St Louis and top 20 schools but couldn’t attend because of the fees) and my mom was a homemaker (taught violin on the side). They are both retired now. Yeah, being an international is only negative haha</p>

<p>Try to target universities where that status is taken into account then. On the CommonApp, you must indicate each parents’ educational background. Places where they got admitted don’t matter, what matters is what school they graduated from. If your mom’s highest diploma is High School Diploma, write that. If your dad go a diploma or certificate from trade school, write that.</p>
