<p>I am aware that each university has a quota and international compete against each other.
I am also aware that for instance, being chinese, is a disadvantage.</p>
<p>What about me? especially that I am not an Arab(I am Kurdish) and have lived both in Iran and Iraq, due to racial persecution.</p>

<p>I think it does not make you URM but if you managed to tell about your background in your essays, I guess it can not hurt since it is pretty unusual.</p>
<p>URM is for American students, so that status won’t help you. But an interesting background might - just not in necessarily at the top schools. They have lots of candidates with interesting backgrounds and amazing academic achievements.</p>
