Does being from NJ help?

Just curious: does being from NJ help? I know Princeton HS sends around 20 people to Princeton, and WWPS (pretty close by) around 8. I'm in central NJ, and we do better with Princeton than with the others in HYPS.

And does it help if you're NJ and applying ED :-D?

I don't think it helps, since you have a lot of competition from New Jersey. The only advantage you might have is that if you go to a well-respected high-school, Princeton is more likely to know about it than the other Ivies are. I can tell you from just one week here that New Jersey is extremely well represented on campus.

Doing ED is probably even more helpful if you come from Jersey, if only because so many people will be applying RD that it is important to distinguish yourself by showing extra interest.

I would think it would actually hurt. Why? Well, about 15% of the class is from New jersey. That means you'll be facing extremly stiff competition. Yet, I think applying ED would greatly help your case as was mentioned.

think about how many students in Princeton High apply to Princeton.

Then take the 20 accepted, and divide by the number who applied. I'm thinking, at most, it will be a few percent higher than the actual acceptance rate at PU.

Same with WWPS.

Being from NJ hurts. :(

It's just that there's so many smart people here, and we all want to go to Princeton...

Is CA a competitive state for Princeton?

yeah. NJ, CA, and NY are probably the three most competitive.

As a NY guy, I've been hearing that there is some pretty stiff competition around the Long Island area. I've heard that they may discriminate against Long Island students in regards to limitting the amount they accept from the area. I haven't been worried about it because of the lack of students in my high school who plan to apply to Princeton, but does anyone have any knowledge of whether or not this is a real possibility?
