Does being in-state help with transferring?

So I’m a Virginia resident, but I go to school in the midwest. I’m thinking about transferring back to VA for cheaper tuition and a better academic environment, so all the usual suspects are on my list (UVA, W&M, GMU, VCU, etc). A lot of those programs are really selective for transfers when you take out CC admits, however, but will being a Virginia resident help me?

That is a good question to ask the Transfer Admissions office at each university.

Depending on where you are in your current program, transferring to a VA CC and completing the required coursework for a guaranteed transfer agreement could be your best option.

Yes, being an in-state helps tons for any public state school, which comprise the majority of your list. At the very least, you’ll pay a lot less too than your OOS/international peers.
