Title.
I am 6’1 and I used to weigh 250 lbs. I dropped down to about 190 and still losing. Is this a hook or no?
I just want to know because I’m writing my essays rn and wondering if it would be a good topic.

It might be a good topic, but that doesn’t make it a hook.
A hook is something the college really wants - a quarterback, a quadruple legacy, a person who plays 10 instruments - something that makes you helpful to the school.
No. But it’s a great accomplishment. Congrats.
Fantastic accomplishment. Be proud of yourself, whatever college you attend.
A person with a hook fulfills an institutional need of a college – it is a reason why a college wants to have one particular individual on campus above other similarly qualified applicants. Examples of a hook would be a recruited athlete, the child of a huge donor (hoping it will bring more donations), a person who would bring positive attention to the school (ex. Malala) etc. Most people do not have hooks.
What you do have is a great personal accomplishment and congratulations on that. It might be a story you want to share in your essay but that will be your choice.
