Does being MULTILINGUAL(3 languages) help in UC admissions?

CCC transfer to UCLA
major: economics (average gpa in 2012 is 3.93)
my CC GPA: 3.84
complete all pre-reqs
2 IGETC in-progress

Studied in 3 countries (China, Russia, US), so i speak 3 languages.

EC:
Accounting/Actuarial company - intern
Russian tutor at CC
Russian teacher assistant at CC
Abercrombie&Fitch - salesperson
American Red Cross - volunteer
Community library - volunteer
running business at Ebay store.

In my PS, i mentioned that i studied in 3 countries and speak 3 languages, and the hardship of learning languages when i was child. In second essay, i wrote my work experiences about running Ebay business.

I know that my GPA is slightly low for the acceptance which is 3.93. But does my languages background help me in admission? Does UCLA care about Personal Statement?

Just give me some feedback. Thank you guys, cant wait the decision on 19th!

Maybe if you were applying for Linguistics…your eBay thing and work experiences probably help more. Then again, extracurricular factors don’t play as a big a role in UCLA transfer admissions as they do in freshman admissions…GPA matters more in which case yours seems very competitive (3.93 is not THE GPA for admissions, it’s the average; people fall above and below). It’d be more helpful if you had those languages on your transcript…or if you had the option to write the personal statements in other languages to demonstrate your proficiency lol.

I’d like to believe that your language background would only help in something like a linguistics major as oceanpartier said.

It will certainly help you get a job

@oceanpartier thank you for reply! As i know, there are a lot of student with GPA above 3.9, but UCLA would not accept all of them as there are limited spots for students. So what else are they looking for the admission?

@xcballin thank you for reply! I just thought that my languages background can stand out among other students because there are not so many students can speak 3 languages.

It does not help.

Source: I speak 4 languages and was denied by ucla last year and rescinded at ucsd. You don’t get any special treatment at a public school unfortunately

@giantsfan101 Hi! Could you tell me what was your GPA? and major you applied?
