Does being OOS help?

So, I know all the UCs got budget cuts. So does it help being an OOS applicant?

Yes. I’d imagine a few in-staters are a little bitter about that.

Does it improve out of staters’ chances significantly?

This thread might help you, note that 14.2% of OOS applicants were accepted for the Fall of 2009, while 39.4% were accepted for the Fall of 2011 (big change in the last few years, due to the California budget crisis):

Downside is that there was a 50% increase in OOS applicants for next Fall.

it’s kind of sad that residents who have paid their taxes for decades are forced to leave the state for their education. /bitter

oh well. for every resident that gets rejected is an OOS’ter who deserved a break and got in.

Write to your California Legislator about restoring funding to California’s colleges.

They need to learn about expenses vs. investments.

Mike, they are admitting more OOS students, but that could be offset by the larger number of applicants, as mentioned earlier. Good luck!
