Does being ranked 1/40 at a private school look better than a 1/400 at public school?

My school's class only has 40 people in it but it's a private school and really hard to get into. You have to take a bunch of tests and score a certain number in order to get in. I rank 1/40 at my school but would college's rather see my ranking on a college application or someone ranked 1/400 at a regular public school? Which would college's be more impressed with? Thanks!

Anybody????

It doesn't really matter, unless your private school is fairly prestigious and a lot of seniors from your school end up at top colleges every single year. So, no it doesn't hurt your chances...

I call troll: <a href="http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?t=195644%5B/url%5D">http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?t=195644</a></p>

Sorry but it was a hypothetical question.....

No, unless you happen to go to a very prestigious private that has developed a relationship with colleges. For example, magnet schools/elite publics are often more well respected than costly but mediocre privates (i.e. Stuyvesant is better regarded than your run of the mill parochial school/local private)

i don't think it matters...

Hopefully I will be 1/ 40 sometime soon

Does the fact that your private school not rank hurt you or put you at a disadvantage to a student from a school which does rank?

I wouldn't think so since a lot of schools don't rank, and most schools just look at your GPA and can tell what percent of the class you were in.
