I am considering applying to a school that I was waitlisted in last year for freshman admissions. It's a top school, with relatively low transfer rates. Will the fact that I was waitlisted last year help or hurt my chances (or not really affect my application in any way)? Honestly, if they would hurt my chances, I'd want to know, so I could maybe save some money for the application.

Being waitlisted pretty much you made it academically but you needed that little extra to really stand out. If you can show that you stand out, you have a great chance.

The additional bonus is that most schools will simply "reactivate" your application, so you won't need to re-submit your HS transcript and SAT scores.
