Does Biochem (BIOC) count toward science GPA?

I took "Introduction to Biochemistry" in the Biochemistry department (BIOC 108) and was wondering if this would count toward my science GPA? I know biochemistry classes taken in the biology department (BIOL) count, but I wasn't sure about this case.

Also, are intro classes like this typically frowned upon as "fluff" science courses?

Thanks.

yeah, ALL science classes go towards your science gpa, and biochem is defintely a science class.

Your science GPA is better referred to as the BCPM GPA. Biochem falls either under biology or chemistry -- even if it's its own department -- and will be in there.

Why would biochem be considered a fluff class? It's usually quite rigorous -- at least, the kind for which organic is a prereq. Are you taking something different?

do intro-level classes look bad on the med school apps, or are they just concerned about the grades you get in them?

Obviously you have to take intro classes at some point. I'm confused as to why the OP is worried.

Thanks for the responses. I'm glad it falls under BCMP. That was my main concern. The course doesn't have an organic prereq (even though I just finished organic), and, after looking into it, there is another "intro to biochem" taught as a 400 level Chem course. The BIOC class is less intensive than that one. Which, is fine with me. I am glad I took the course either way. And, it sounds like med schools will not consider a good grade (A-) in any intro to biochem course as insubstantial? Thanks again...

What kind of biochem doesn't have organic as a prereq? This combined with your initial concern does make me wonder if it's a fluff class.
