I'm a senior in high school and have already applied to several schools (Ithaca, SUNY Fredonia, Baldwin Wallace, UMass Amherst). I plan on being a clarinet performance major. I had considered applying to Boston University a while ago, but then I heard a negative review from one person, but I still like the school, so I was wondering if anyone could give me some more info on BU and their music program, especially the clarinet teacher. I heard that their facilities are great and that they've got a really cool study abroad program in London, but I don't know too much about the clarinet teacher. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

BU has a very good school of music. I do not have knowledge about clarinet specifically, however.

Some of BU’s music majors are heavily skewed towards the doctoral candidate, then the masters, etc. I’d suggest asking about the performance opps for your instrument and about how the orchestra(s) chairs are allotted.

I don’t know much about BU, but one advantage of attending BU as an undergrad might be that if you ever are interested in doing a Masters or Doctorate Music Ed program online, BU is the only fully accredited (regionally accredited and accredited for music) college that I am aware of that offers both.

There may (or may not) be some advantage in getting an undergrad degree on campus, and then being able to work towards a masters and/or doctorate from BU online as you pursue a career in performance (or whatever).
