I’ve heard that some schools such as Tufts don’t consider AP stats a math class when looking at applications. Does this hold true for Bowdoin? I would like to avoid taking AP Calc strictly because I want to focus my energies into APs that actually relate to my career choice. Thoughts?

I was admitted this year and I am taking AP Stats in my senior year. I think you’re fine taking AP Statistics.

S was admitted this year and he is taking AP Stats, his only AP math course. Bowdoin uses AP math scores for placement only. Like you, S’s focus is not on math, but the stats course will be useful for the college subjects he’s likely to take. The lack of AP Calc on his transcript did not look odd in view of his stated interests and strengths, and he’s been doing well in the stats class.
