^ I have to agree with this. Most of the threads are of 2300 or 2400 SAT with a 4.0 UW GPA and 800 community service hours, president of several clubs while being a superb athlete, USABO and …

Now I’m depressed.

I’ve only seen a few which seem like a reality for me.

If you think about it, the people on here who post with those kind of stats are probably like the one person to have those credentials out of their entire school. I’m sure you guys have like one or two people like that in your own school. To me, it seems like those kind of people are a minority, and there really isn’t that many who are THAT awesome. It just seems like it on CC, when you read so many amazing chances thread. The rest of us normal people can only be inspired to do better and work harder :)

lol the answer to this question is very obvious. Although CC primarily depresses us “average” kids, i’ve also been strongly motivated and received beneficial advice that can help me in the long run. the only reason i’m here is for the future. had i known about CC when i was a freshman in highschool, i would have taken full advantage of it. oh and if it makes you feel better, i haven’t done any of things you’ve mentioned nor anything near it.

^^ Haha, I highly doubt it. People on here get so anal when others tell them their chances are iffy. They take it too personally for it to be made up :]

It doesn’t depress me. I sometimes get a twisted sort of pleasure at watching people stress about getting into HYPSM. Remember, your life is over if you don’t get into at least one Ivy League school!

The fact that other people have amazing credentials doesn’t bother me. It’s cool to see people as motivated as them and it drives me. This site is a huge help as other CC’ers have helped me more than my own high school counsoler. I’ve gotten more in the know about self-studying, college app’s, and a lot more stuff.

You know what REALLY depresses me? and p!sses me off:

in the chances thread, i notice the Ivy league or so threads are rather swamped with feedback, and even more so when the kids are of “prodigic status” while the we only give the average joes a passing glance.

this translates to… glorifying the accomplished…

Op, I feel your pain. But, then I was wondering where my life was going ever since the beggining of tenth grade so I’m really not as down. And also Op, you really shouldn’t care about HYp. To be honest, its nice but graduate school is more important. Furthermore, live YOUR life! I would rather dance in the grass under the rain at Iowa University or watch the aurora Borealis at the University of Alaska or sit in the desert meditating in Utah than losing my soul at HYP. But then again, I’m just a rising junior- never know how I’ll feel in a year :]

well im part of the minority of cc who actually gets average to slightly above average grades. i havent really done anything spectacular thatll WOW adcoms either. so when im here on CC i just think to myself ‘hey this is only a small percentage of people im competing against, maybe i do have a shot at getting accpeted into good collleges.’

Agree with the former but not the latter. There are plenty of people posting stats on this website with sub 2100 SAT’s and sub 4.0 weighted GPA’s. In fact, I’d say a comfortable majority do. And IIRC you’re above both those thresholds.

The idea that everyone on CC has stats in the stratosphere is cliche and false.

Baseball-EXACTLY! I’d be willing to be a quarter to half of the 800s and 5s you see here are …well…not accurate. It is intimidating if you take it all as truth. Seems very unlikely though. Some people get a kick out of demoralizing the comptetion.
