Does Cal Poly rescind your acceptance?

So I got into Cal Poly as a Transfer for Fall 2011 as a Liberal Studies major and I already accepted their offer. My reported GPA on application was a 3.39. Unfortunately, I received a “D” in my Cell and Molecular Biology class this past Fall 2010. With that “D” I currently have a 3.17. This class will not hurt my GE, was not a class for my major, and I currently have 65 transferable units and after Spring 2011 I will have 81 transferable units, not counting that “D”.

I called admissions on Friday and they said to send in my transcripts ASAP (if you’re a transfer you have to anyway), and I told the admissions officer my situation and I asked will Cal Poly reject me? He said that he is not sure. If it were a required course for my major or used to satisfy my total # of transferable units, or used for my General Education, or was an “F” then it would have been a done deal to reject me. But with this class and my major he couldn’t really tell me for sure.

So he told me my application will go under a second review by the Dean of Liberal Studies. Um, will my acceptance be taken away from me???

surfbuff-I am still waiting to hear but I just wanted to say I hope your admission is not withdrawn. I know how much we all want to go there. Good luck to you!!!

thanks socalsr. good luck to you as well :)

Surfbuff, If you haven’t already done so, send a letter to the Dean of Liberal Studies with a copy to Admissions to cover all bases. It couldn’t hurt. If there were extenuating circumstances (like illness, etc), explain that too, but include the other pertinent info you’ve provided in this post. This is obviously stressful, but it’s likely given these efforts you won’t be rescinded.

well just a full time job and the many hours of extra curricular hours hurt me. I already put that on my app though. I guess I’ll give it a shot and send a letter. I won’t really know where to send the letter to the Dean of Liberal Studies but yeah…thanks ReadyNot

I had a nightmare like this last night! It’s crazy this is actually happening to you. I dreamt I was taking an econ class this Spring semester and somehow it got canceled in the middle of the semester and I didn’t know it. I was running all over campus trying to find another class and I started crying (in the dream) because I thought Cal Poly would rescind my admission because of this one econ class. I’m not even taking an econ class so when I woke up I was freaking out and so happy it wasn’t real.

Surfbuff, look at this link, send the letter to the LS Department Chair (probably the equivalent of the “Dean”) letting her know you were informed by Admissions that she’d be reviewing the situation. Though there is also a link to her email, you should probably send a letter by snail mail addressed to her at the main CPSLO address, with a separate copy addressed to Admissions. Then contact Admissions to follow up once you know they’ve received letter and transcripts. Good luck to you, hoping you’ll be fine.

that sounds good. i will get right on that and keep you updated. thank you so much!!!
