How much goes MIT care about class rank? I'm currently number 1 out of about 300 and a sophmore. But i've recently considered going further ahead in math and taking classes starting with Calculus 1 this summer at my local college. With this path I would graduate high school with Calculus through Linear Algebra taken from now until graduation. However, this would mean i would give up the class rank because i wouldnt take the AP Calc class offered at my school. Would it be more beneficial to stick with the rank and graduate with Calculus 2 as my highest math class or take the numerous college classes and rank somewhere lower, but most likely still in the top 5?

You know how many valedictorians-who-took-the-easy-route MIT rejects every year? Those are not the type of people MIT looks for.

Agreed with PiperXP; rank’s important, but it’s not everything. How you got to be the rank that you are will tell more about you than just your rank.
