Does class rank really matter to you?

Freshmen year, i probably wasn't at all concerned with my class rank. I think it was in my junior year that i actually started to care about things like that. I noticed that class rank is only a small factor when in comes to college acceptance and what not. Some who are not even in the top 10% have gotten more scholarships and grants than those who are. I don't really know what to think of mine, since it is only out of 163 kids. How do you guys feel about this?

Class of 500.
I really care about class rank because I want that confounded valedictorian medal at graduation.

It’s quite important to me (though its not the MOST important factor in college admissions). I’m in the top 5% in a class of about 150.

I never really cared about class rank. I was a goofball during freshman year, but ended up 9/~750+. Sophomore year involved girl problems, drugs, partying, and apathy. I moved to 23 at the end of the first semester and ended up 37 by the end of the year. Junior year, I actually started relying because I wanted to remain in the too 10% and didn’t want to seem like a dumb-ass, so I picked my rank up to 20/612 as of now. My goal is to break the top 15 or maybe even 10. I need to show the school who the real boss is haha. However, it is just a number and it is not that important if I accomplish that goal or not.

Our school doesn’t have class rank, sometimes I wish it did.

@dfree124 So you guys won’t have a valedictorian? Has the lack of rank effected you scholarship/application wise?

Actually we do have val and sal, but nothing besides that. I have 0 chance at either, but I would like to know where I fall in the greater scheme of things.

I haven’t applied for any scholarships/colleges yet, but the lack of rank certainly won’t hinder my chances.

I don’t care at all about class rank. I’ll just do my thing for four years and do my best, and if by the end of them, I’m in the top 10% or higher, then great. If not, whatever, I tried my best.

Class of around 550 at my school, and we don’t do ranking, as far as I know. It’s all just estimated.

As for valedictorian stuff, we the students elect a speaker (or a few, I don’t remember) that we find to be a well-rounded student.

Class Rank wasn’t the biggest thought in my mind for a while. I always assumed I would be near the top. In 11th grade, when we found out our ranks for the first time, I was 3rd - as expected. This year, I’ve been working my hardest to try to improve and become either valedictorian or salutatorian. So yes, it’s very important to me now.

Meh. I’m aiming for top 5-10%. I don’t really care what number I am as long as I’m in there (or above).

Alright, suppose that you get accepted to the college of your dreams, get loads of scholarships, etc. Would you still want to be valedictorian, or would it not matter at that point?

My school doesn’t rank so it doesn’t matter.

I usually never try but I still remain in the top 10% of my class. This year I’m going to try harder until I graduate so I can hopefully make it to the top 5%.

I really want the opportunity to ■■■■■ a valedictorian speech, so, yes, it matters at least somewhat.

@turtleducks - it’s not really something I can even consider. By time I hear back from my top few colleges, it will be the end of March/early April, which is the second-to-last week of the third quarter. At my school, the third quarter is the last quarter that counts for rank. So, it’s kind of a moot point.

Third in a class of 150… We have an abnormally smart class this year… I cared about rank until mid year reports went out. Now I don’t care about second because it won’t help me with college.

I care, well cared to the extent that it matters to colleges. The number itself means little to me because it’s just compares how to well I can do mindless busywork in comparison to my classmates. It doesn’t really reflect on my intelligence or work ethic, it just matters towards college.

Not so much for me (I would rather not be giving a speech at the graduation ceremony).
But colleges cares about it unfortunely. Good thing I’m in the top 25%

Class rank means nothing to me. I hate speeches too.
