I am considering Clemson as a school for engineering, but do not know much about it. It’s not ranked highly like other schools I’m looking at (UIUC, Purdue, Wisconsin, Texas), but I would likely receive 10-15,000/yr based on my ACT score (34). I am considering Clemson a safety as opposed to the other schools listed above, but would Clemson be worth the money if I do get accepted into those other colleges? I’ve heard that many companies come directly to Illinois or Purdue and recruit engineers. Does clemson have this? My main concern is job placement.
Princeton Review ranks Clemson career services as #5 in the nation. We have a rising sophomore and one of the reasons Clemson made his list was the job placement rate.
And fwiw, our son chose Clemson over Purdue.
@ Pokey Joe FYI Princeton review just released 2016 rankings and Clemson is now ranked #1 for career services . Go Tigers!
Even better! That’s great news!
Where are the engineering students getting jobs? There’s a map on the Clemson website that indicates that they are mostly all staying in that area for jobs. But the colors are kind of off, so I’m not quite getting the full picture.
I’m concerned about two things:
- Finding a job back here in Texas.
- Having a name big enough that might allow daughter to venture out somewhere else if she chooses, maybe even out of the country.
Any insights?
They are ranked 1 for career services. I would contact the engineering department and ask specifically about internships and co OP’s. They could give you a better idea…
We have an OOS engineering student at Clemson. I would also point out that Clemson’s alumni network is rated one of the strongest in the nation. A recent search on LinkedIn with regard to our student’s area of interest revealed potential alumni contacts across a wide geographic area. Clemson Family is not just a saying… people do go out of their way to help each other, which means a strong networking platform. Finally, the recent success of the football program is certainly raising the profile of the school nationally, and Clemson’s engineering program is one of the first things people learn about as it is known as a strength for them. Obviously engineering is offered at many schools… I would encourage you to try and visit Clemson. If it’s the right place for you, you’ll be able to tell from your time on campus. Go Tigers!
