The reason I am asking this is because my Freshmen GPA is 3.8-3.9, My sophomore grade is 3.3, and my upcoming Junior is most likely going to be 3.8-4.0. If they take out Freshmen, Im done for!

Yes, that’s what the college rep told us and I believe it’s also on their website. I’m not sure you are out of the game though.Concentrate on improving and keep it going senior year. What major?

They ignore your freshman grades IF, and only if, they don’t significantly help your overall GPA. I’ve heard this from every adcom I talked to, so you’re probably fine.

Electrical Engineering, Although I would suffice with Mech. I just read a post from a representative of CMU and he/she said “In some cases we will weigh freshman grades more heavily when looking at special circumstances (health issues, drop off or increase in grades, etc.)”

Hopefully they do consider them, I was ready to do ED on RPI instead.
FategoneAwry16, seeing as you post a lot on CMU and will be attending their, you must know much of the place. My question is, If I do early decision, would it even help doing an interview or would it be redundant in showing interest.

Another CMU student walking by…

Of course it would help doing an interview! If you have an opportunity to do an interview, definitely do it.

@darkaeroga, I see someone’s a Square Enix fan like me :D

Anyway, you should definitely do an interview even if you’re applying ED. CMU really cares about demonstrated interest so visit campus, do a campus/local info session, and do an interview (try to get one with an admissions officer as those count more than alumni interviews).

This is the ONLY school that I’ve heard of that does this!! Why??? My DS took two honors math (Alg2H/TrigH) and two sciences (bio/chem) in 9th grade and got a 4.0 - I hope 9th grade’s GPA is not overlooked! With junior level classes as a sophomore this year (physics honors, AP CS and AP Calc BC) he’s now an A/B student. Hopefully the choice to challenge himself won’t hurt his admissions because he’s a gifted student who’s curriculum has been accelerated, otherwise that 4.0 would have been in 10th grade! ugh.
