I plan on joining the Air Force as an officer as soon as I get out of college, with a degree in astrophysics. I applied ED to Colby, sent off regular/priority decisions to Tufts, Franklin and Marshall, and UNH, and I’m working on applications to Dartmouth, Bowdoin, Harvard, Cornell, Princeton, and Williams. When I submitted the common app I indicated that I plan on a career in the military. I also included in some of the additional essays that I plan on doing AFROTC while at school. I don’t want that to hurt my chances for the colleges - will they look down on the fact I don’t plan to be the next big scientist, and that I’d rather serve in the military?
I think your future plans will only help you. They show you are focused and mature.
I don’t think it would hurt you at all.
If the school has AFROTC then stating your intention to participate in that program – whether as a scholarship or non-scholarship student – is a plus for your application.
No
@cupugu I figured as much - my Tufts essay tied together astrophysics and AFROTC and I thought it was a pretty strong essay
