So I finished high school with a 3.4 GPA, each year it became better, with my getting straight A's my junior and senior years. I did not apply to Columbia as a freshman applicant because I did not believe I would have a shot with a 3.4 GPA at all, despite good ECs and a good SAT score (2130, I plan on retaking it).

Currently I am a 4.0 student at a tier 4 university, came here because of money issues.

I plan on transferring during my sophomore year college and applying as a junior transfer to some reach schools. I always felt that I would belong at Columbia, love the NYC environment and I was thinking. If I maintain my 4.0 GPA as a Biochemistry major, could I have a shot at transferring to Columbia for my final two years of college?

Yeah dude, Obama transfered from some random college to columbia too

Maybe if you do something spectacular at your first college. I don’t think good grades were the only reason Obama succeeded when he transferred to CU.

that and he transferred 25 yrs ago.

columbia looks at all students, and with good testing and good grades, you’ll probably be competitive. but columbia prefers first-year transfers simply because it makes it easier for them to finish the core. so on the other hand it is important then to make sure you have a well-defined academic goal with a major you’ve already started, and keep up your 4.0. that will give you the best shot.

Well my only option was a tier 4, parents said that if I can spend 2 years here and then for my final two years go anywhere, they will pay for it, they say if it is a school like Columbia they are willing to pay for a third year.

Now the issue becomes that I don’t even know if I should bother applying to Columbia.
