hey guys,

So I know Ivy Leagues get tons of fantastic kids with amazing stats who apply, but how much do they care about the SAT? They say their admissions are hollistic, true or not?

I'm a prospetive student with a 3.9 UW 4.5 W.
Done 2 internships, lots of EC, president of 3
First generation
Wrote a book in 5th grade

Basically the avg applicant but my SAT is 1700...

Thoughts?

Not a chance. Unless you’ve taken every AP class under the sun and gotten a 5 on all of your exams, don’t bother. You simply HAVE to get better scores if you even want a shot. Try taking the ACT, people generally do better on there.

It’s holistic, but you won’t even get past Round 1 of admissions with that SAT score. I’d say above a 2010 at least, preferably higher. Restudy, retake. You’ll be surprised at how much you score will increase. What were your scores for CR, W, M separately? Try the ACT like stanstan009 said but Ivies tend to like the SAT more.

thanks guys. Yeah that would make sense
my scores were 630 CR
530 math
540 writing

it’s just annoying because they say there is no cutt-off.

Well, there isn’t a cut-off. Every year, there are certain students admitted who don’t break 2000 on their SATs. That being said, these are the students who have outstanding hooks that make them a valuable addition to the community.

SAT is an important factor in the admissions process, regardless of the other criteria. As impressive as your resume may be, it’s still generally a “requirement” to have a high-end SAT score because, well, you are applying to a very high-end school and SAT is certainly an indicator of aptitude.

I know one of my korean international friend who got into Columbia with only 650 in Critical reading along with 3.71 in GPA. I think Columbia University takes into account some of the particular extracurricular activities that people participate. I recommend you to take a look into [Youtheca ? Student Activities Social Network](http://www.youtheca.com) It’s a student social extracurricular activity website that may help you in a significant way.

Thank you guys so much. You’re actually very helpful and nice people. I guess it’s all up to me now!
