This summer I plan on teaching a sport, working as a cashier at a local grocery store, and working at a very fast-paced restaurant in the city.
Is having 3 jobs pretty impressive for a 17 year old? Would it look better if I continued them into the school year?
I'm not sure how much Columbia values work experience...my grades and scores are good, but not amazing (A+ and A student with around 2260-2270 SAT), so I was hoping work experience would give me a boost.
Any thoughts? Thank you so much guys!

“Would it look better if I continued them into the school year?” Who cares? It’s neither one or the other. Work experience is good. So are many other things.

Would you believe there are actually HS students who need to work to … earn money? To help pay for food? yep. I’ve heard of them.

Thank you for replying. Yes I am actually teaching sports because it makes extremely good money, and I’m going to have to pay for housing myself since my parents can barely afford around a $45k tuition a year (if I go to a private school). I know work experience is good, but I was hoping have 3 simultaneously would look even more impressive?

If I told you the answer was no, you would probably rethink your plans.

Yes. I credit my job (which started as a volunteer gig the summer between junior and senior year and continued as a paying job through senior year) and the letter of recommendation I received from my boss with helping me gain admission. It definitely helped me that my job was related to my academic interests (working in a hospital and pre-med), but just generally speaking, I think work experience is prized.

Thank you all for your input!! I have to work 3 jobs this summer anyway, so I was wondering if doing so would give me a boost for Columbia (and if so I would apply :)). Unfortunately my jobs don’t relate to my future major, but the fact that I deal with people in the “real world” might be impressive along with a possible letter of rec from a coach too? Anyways, thank you guys!
