Does common app short ec response HAVE to be less than 150 words?

<p>I'm being told that my extracurricular essay is too long (by about 30 words).</p>

<p>Is common app seriously going to make me revise my essay just to reduce 30 words? I thought 150 words was just suggested?</p>
