Does composite ACT really matter?

I'm a senior in high shool and I've taken the ACT once last fall. I applied for chemical engineering and my alternative is computer engineering, so I was hoping that they would look more at the individual scores rather than the ACT as whole. I scored the following:

Composite - 32
Math - 36
Science - 36
Reading - 36
English - 25
Essay - 8
Combined English and Writing - 24

Will my low English and essay score be any problem for admission?

I'm hoping that my strong math and science foundations (as I am only applying to math/science fields) can sway admission officers to ignore my expository skills.

The composite score is what’s most important! Engineering will look at that and your math score.

And you got a 33…?

I was in a similar boat last year. I had a 35 on English, 34 Reading and 32 Science, but a 26 on Math.

You got a 36 on 3/4 subjects. Colleges realize that a person can’t be perfect on EVERYTHING, your test scores are great.
